I have a question about the Congo Tetra.

I am setting up an aquarium for a small school of Albino Cory. I read that Albino Cory act more "natural" when in the presence of other fish including Tetras. As a result of this information I started looking into various species of Tetras that I could introduce to my school of Albino Cory. I have fallen in love with the Congo Tetra. The only problem is that the Albino Cory and the Congo Tetra come from two different places. I am hoping that this is not a problem, but... I would like some experience based input on this. Does anyone know if Albino Cory and Congo Tetra can co-exist in a "natural" state?

Both will get along fine,as they are both peaceful species.The congo's will fill the south american tetras niche.

They certainly can get along, congos are great community fish. But that my answere would depend upon the size of your tank. Congo tetras are among the larger of the tetras and really need a 4 foot tank as they are a very active fish and need space to swim.

If your tank is shorter than 4 feet, I would suggest a smaller tetra like diamond tetras for example

At the moment I am using a 40 gallon flat back hexagon aquarium for my Albino Cory. However, I will not be adding any other species to this tank. If I do decide to continue in the hobby I will be using a standard 4 foot/90 gallon aquarium.

For the 40gal tank, congos are really pretty, but probably uncompatible. But have you ever looked at Pearl Danios? I had a few of them before, and they are a fish native to the same area as the albino cories, and good for that size tank. Just a suggestion for you if you are interested in a suitable mid-top dwelling schooling fish for your tank. And a lot of rasboras are native to there as well. :)

The Congo Tetra are not for the 40 gallon tank. When I commit to introduce other species to my Albino Cory it will be after I move the Cory to a larger tank. I have not decided yet, but it will either be a 4 foot 90 gallon tank, or a 6 foot 180 gallon tank depending on how many different species I decide to include within the community.

But... are you saying the Congo Tetra are not suitable because of the size of the tank, or because of their temperament?

In the 90 or the 180 i would think they would be perfectly fine to be with the cories. That should be plenty of room for them to be able to swim around happily. :)
