If it's eggs she'll lay them very soon. There was hardly a noticeable difference when mine had eggs.

Yes, she's fatter than usual. It's been 10 days today since she went into hiding.
As for Mr. Krib, he's just hanging around where he wants to hang - which is not near her.

She does have a little ditch dug in the substrate in the back corner. That's where she's sitting. I can just barely see her if I get at the correct angle. I don't think any of the fish can get to her spot. they're all too big.
Kind of sad as I know that if the parents don't eat the eggs or the fry, the other fish will get the babies.

Oh crap..really sorry to hear that Cindy. Do you know if she was egg bound?
When in doubt, do a water change.

Awww man... I'm sorry Cindy. That's really sad news. ;< I wonder if what Larry was saying about her not laying her eggs is what killed her. She just held onto them too long?

    thanks guys
It very well could be that she was egg bound, however, I stirred up the substrate a bit when I recovered her because it was difficult to get to her. There was a lot of yellow 'stuff' floating around back there and now the fish are all jockeying for position in that corner so I suspect there was at least some eggs laid and they are eating them.
I don't know how long she'd been dead. I saw her last night before I turned the lights out about 6:00 pm when I quit working and she was still alive. She was still very round when I fished her out. Sounds gruesome (and not something I'd normally do) but I laid her on a thickness of paper towels and pushed on her gut to see if I could express anything. Really gross blackish green liquid was the only thing that came out. very smelly. Perhaps her internal organs had started to decompose already? Anyway, nothing that appeared to be eggs.

and the good news just keeps on coming
just went to feed the 15 gal and found a dead neon.:i( he was one of the bigger ones which means he was one of my original. So I suspect it was an age related death.

THEN I fed my 30. I saw this 'sort of whitish' thing sticking out of one of the holes I'd drilled my my AC HOB that my pothos is planted in. First I thought It was an MTS. then I thought maybe it was a root poking out. But something made me investigate. It was one of my Harleys. He'd apparently swam toward the hole, got his head stuck and couldn't get out. Holy cow.

They say bad luck comes in 3's. I hope this is the end of my fish deaths

Where did it come out of? Could be she was bloated and constipated.
