Ok. Tank is filled. Water is treated. Temp is 82 F and bubbler and filters are running fine. whew! No lights yet but will get them by the end of the week.
I dosed ammonia as follows: 3 tsp - which brought level to 2 after about 15 min.
So I added another 3 tsp and ammonia is now at 4+ after another 15+ minutes.
So ... Now I wait several days and then test.

Hoping to have the tank cycled in 3 weeks. Wishful thinking, I know. We will see.
Guess I'm going to have to finally make a decision on my stock.
I'm still torn and have been going back and forth for a couple of months.
Wish list: severum(s), bosemani rainbows, angels, blood parrots, roseline sharks, congo tetras. Eventually a BN or Gold algae eater
I know I have to pare down the list - so I'm thinking: 2 severums, 1 angel, 3 blood parrots. I figure that's a pretty full tank ... but if I could fit in a few others, would you go for the rainbows or the congos?
Or would you take the angel out of the mix and go for the rainbows and congos?
Urg. tough choices.
thanks.Last edited by fishmommie; 08-26-2012 at 10:40 PM.

Hi
And I'd LOVE to post thumbnails if I could just figure it out :o(. I've had no luck with the instructions and resizing but will give it a go.
In the meantime - is it possible? I just set it up yesterday and added the ammonia but it looks like I have a bacterial bloom started already as my water is cloudy. I'm hoping that's a good sign???30 gal FW:dw gourami, cory cats, ABN pleco, Colombian & Serpae tetra, nerites & mystery snails

rats
This is disappointing. I had loaded the photo using the resizing site listed in the how to section. When I first loaded it, it was there. Perfect. Now I've come back to the thread to load another photo and I see an error in the above post.
sorry. and back to the drawing board.30 gal FW:dw gourami, cory cats, ABN pleco, Colombian & Serpae tetra, nerites & mystery snails

got my LED lights today
Still haven't figured out the photo posting thing but I will.
In the meantime, the fishless cycle continues. Am not letting myself check water parimeters until this weekend :o)
Today, however, I bought my LED lights (splurged since I got the tank and stand and canopy used and refinished them myself) Oh, wow! The led's are amazing!! The water just shimmers.
Hopefully only 2 - 3 more weeks and I'll have fishies in my tank.

Post the photo to photobucket or picasa's web albums and then insert the photo into text using the "image button."
Is that what you were asking?
Also, you can scroll down to below where the text box is for posting and click on manage attachments.
