  1. Default Wow, I have celestial pearl danio fry!

I was feeling bad for these 2 little fish I kept in a 5 gallon corner eclipse tank. It seemed like 1 was always chasing the other and maybe the tank was too small for them. So a few weeks ago I moved them into my 20gallon long I keep running in the basement. Today I was moving plants around (mostly java fern) from the back half to the front to gravel vac and I saw 1 tiny black fry swimming for cover. So cool! I've never had fry before.

It's probably a good thing I moved the danios out because shortly after the dozen or so cherry shrimp in there all died. I don't know what I did wrong, probably overfeeding and not vaccuming the gravel (I have plants in there). I had a few shrimp in the 20 long but thought the roseline barbs I was quarantining must have ate them all. They must not have because now I have at least 10 babies in there and 1 adult too.

Since I want to get more danio fry and don't know how well it will work with all the cherry shrimp I am setting up a spare 10 gallon to move the danios into. Right now I have the filter seeding in the 20. Maybe in a couple weeks they will be ready to spawn again. I think I will watch when the female starts looking plump again and then move them in the 10 for a week or 2 until they spawn.

Here I thought the fat fish was the mean one and the skinny one was getting chased and not eating enough. Now I know it was just the difference between male and female, lol!

One last thing- I now have a really cool red and purple betta in the 5g named Charlie. I'm trying to make certain I don't overfeed this one. He gets 4 tiny betta pellets per day, NLS brand.

    Congratulations!

I'm not certain, but aren't CPDs schooling fish? You may get better results with a few more, like 6+. They really like to swim, so good job moving them.

I don't know if shrimp are fast enough to catch fry...never owned them but it seems unlikely.

Your betta will be fine on those rations. I suggest maybe 2 in the morning and 2 at night? They can be prone to constipation, especially if they overeat. Just found out that mine adores shelled peas when I discovered he was constipated (it's a common cure). Maybe you could spice it up a bit every now and then with bloodworms or daphnia.
10 gallon with a veiltail betta, 7 neons, 1 ADF, and one neat moss ball.

20 gallon with 6 female black phantoms, and 1 schwartzi cory

  3. Default

I feed each of my male bettas 5 big pelits each day. Sometimes they get a few extra (IE more slip out om my hand than intentionally or I have been gone for a few days or I will be gone for a few days.)
Lots of tanks. Some tanks are planted. Fish include community and bettas.
2 Dachshunds. Angel (Red) and Cookie (Chocolate Dapple).
Shiny Things and Beauty the rabbits.
RIP Princess and Max the Dachshunds, Tiger and Ping Pong the rabbits, and all the fishes from when I was a newbie.

Thanks for the tips, seems like my betta wants food everytime I walk by him.

Oh yes they are greedy pigs and will eat until they can't move anymore. :-P

Woo hoo 3 fry confirmed swimming in there. Can't wait to get the 10g set up and see what luck I have. I read the parents have no discrepancy about eating their own eggs if they find them, cherry shrimp too. So I'm going to try and let them spawn in the 10 and then put the parents back in the 20.

I don't have any fry food for my current fry. What I have is the dust in an empty fish food jar. Also the front glass on the 20 is loaded with green spot algae/ diatoms. I figure if I scrape a little off every day that will also give them something to eat. I probably should pick up some fry food though.

You probably should. That stuff is CHEEP.

Yeah it's cheap for how little you need to use. I'm dipping the tip of a swiss army knife into the vial and giving the fry a little bump, haha good times. Seriously though, I'm happy I can see the little guys eating it.
