  1. Default ID help please, got a bunch of fish

    Hey guys,

So my uncle gave me his fish today, and I've got a handle on them all expect this guy, thought he was an Otto but he isn't.

He is some sort of little catfish that I'm not 100% what he is:

I just did a Petsmart search seems like it a Cory, guess I was thrown off cause hes a bigger one and is pretty fat lol. There is two of them, though they don't really hang out yet.

I'm going to get some algae wafers, think that will be a good food for them?

He gave me a lot of food and said to feed multiple times a day now that I have more guys, the Catfish should clean it up he said, but still think algae would be good for them (unless they don't eat that). Plus I want my fish to be fat so I want to fed them more anyway lol
RIP Shark Bait, my Red Tail Shark :(

could be a number of species looking at that pic. can you get a full body shot? looks like a cory. be careful not to overfeed. very common newbie mistake as uneaten food fouls up the water very quickly.
    Thar she blows!!!

I'm trying to make sure all the food gets eaten, he also gave me a tetra, when I went in to fed them all (he fed my fish before putting his guys in so they try and eat them or whatever) I dipped my whole arm in to get where the Tetra was hanging out and released the food there to make sure he was eating, he ate a little bit, would like to see him eat more but I'm sure he will, a lot escaped and went all over the tank, some to the bottom but oh well, just can't make a habit of letting all the food go there. All of his fish are a few years old.

Hard to see, and yes, a full body shot would be better, but it looks like a green cory.

if he is a lot bigger than a regular bronze cory he could be a giant brochis
    My therapist says I need a bigger tank . . . . .

Definitely a cory of some kind, probably green (they are one of the largest). I don't think they eat algae wafers...pretty sure they don't...so just store those for another day. They like sinking shrimp pellets, but they will certainly eat the extra food on the bottom. If you are overfeeding, there is no need to add shrimp pellets to your tank...he will already be full.

Also, cories are another schooling fish. They are MUCH happier in a 6+ school, but that will depend now on your tank size.

One tetra in a tank (if I read you right) will be terrified all the time and likely won't eat like he should. If you have room you should bulk up his school to 6+ or return him to the store.

Also, pretty sure fish don't get "fat" as we know it...over feeding them may cause stomach issues but more likely will foul your water fast. They will look lovely and strong if fed and cared for properly. :)
10 gallon with a veiltail betta, 7 neons, 1 ADF, and one neat moss ball.

20 gallon with 6 female black phantoms, and 1 schwartzi cory

Cory cats are carnivorous, algae wafers are a no no, their diet should consist of sinking shrimp pellets, live/forzen brineshrimp, daphnia, bloodworms and other meaty treats

alright, no on the wafers then

remember I adopted this fish, well my uncle gave them to me they are all at least four years old.

The tetra was his only swimmer left, so its never been in the school, I'm considering going out to buy a few more, the cories I won't. I lay out veggies from time to time but you guys say they won't eat them, they have eaten flake food for the past few years so they are trained on that, I'll to get them snacks from time to time if I could.

There is also (and don't kill me) a Pleco, hes probably 5 or 6 inches but my uncle said hes been that size for a while, so we'll see.... if he starts to grow again (or when) he does I have to rehome him.

I'm planning on getting a bigger tank for my school house, so maybe I'll bring him along. Hes neat though, he just sucks on the glass, he doesn't even play with/eat the driftwood I have in there.... :(
RIP Shark Bait, my Red Tail Shark :(
