Really amazing Cliff, I would love some day to do a reef tank... how do you keep the nitrates so low?

In most set-ups with a light to moderate stocking of fish and a OK maintenance routine, all you need as much live rock as you can can fit in there (to grow more of the nitrate eating bacteria) and a protein skimmer to remove "stuff" from the water before it breaks down into ammonia would be all you need to get and keep nitrates will under 5ppm

As my set-up is heavy stocked with fish, I also need to add a algae scrubber and use bio-pellets to compensate for a more than typical amount of fish in a reef tank.
If you take your time to do the research FIRST, you can successfully set-up and keep ANY type of aquarium with ease.

With the additional coraline algae in the tank, the blue tones of the LEDs seams to reflect into the camera a lot more than ever before making it a little harder for me to get a good pic. Most of the ones I took did not turn out, but here are some of the ones that did

A few of the left side of the tank

Please excuse the hair algae, I have not gotten around to cleaning it out yet

And a few of the clowns in thier anemone. They are starting to darken up so I hope their black coloring will develop completely soon

Gorgeous photos, Cliff, particularly those last few of the clowns. Your tangs are getting pretty huge - particularly that orange shoulder.

It's really hard to get accurate photos of marine tanks (I've found). I once took a load of photos on my phone of a superb looking tank I saw in a hotel...all of them came out neon blue (even though it didn't "look" blue). I'm guessing that's what's happened here a little bit.

Maybe posting a video would help (any way to see more of this fantastic tank!)

    Thanks Firefly

3 of tangs are pretty much fully grown and the other 3 still have a few more years before they will reach full size. The orange shoulder and vampire tangs are actually between 9 and 10 years old now so I would say they are as big as they are going to get.

I know what you mean about the blue coloring on the photos. It took me many hours of just trying all the settings on my camera until I found a combination that seems to reduce it a little. I have tried a few videos but I need to find some type of tri-pod or stand as I don't have a steady enough hand for that.

I'm going to try again in a few hours once my lighting has reached the full setting

If you have any photo editing software that has a colour balance option, you can tone the blue down. Hope you don't mind - I was tempted to have a go with one of yours.

    Original

Not sure if this is truer?

Actually, it still looks quite blue doesn't it?

That does look a lot better. I'll have to try the color balancing as well. What software did you use ?

Heck, maybe I could even edit out the algae
