I saw a columbian tetra in the video too. They look great with cherry barbs as well.

The tank is looking great FF. The cherries must love it in there.
When in doubt, do a water change.

This is the best "journal" that has ever hit AC. Organized and in a storyline with awesome pictures all the way through. Very nice read.

What a great looking tank Firefly. I've never seen this journal and just took the time to read the whole thing, amazing transformation from African to planted. And I believe I counted 4 assassin snail eggs in that one picture of the assassin snail egg. They are quite prolific little buggers given the opportunity.
Keep in mind that I am a plant noob so my suggestion might be totally off the wall, but I would take that group of roundy leaf plants in the right corner in the second picture of post 110 (told you I was a plant noob) and either buy more to fill it in or bunch it up a bit to give it a more full look. This isn't a criticism just an opinion.
When I go fishing I just place a sharp rock in the water and sit there waiting for all the dead fish to float to the top... Kingfisher
Brutal honesty will be shown on this screen.
I think my fish is adjusting well to the four gallon, He's laying on his side attempting to go to sleep on the bottom of the gravel.
Tolerance is a great thing to have, so is the ability to shut up.

I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you.

That is an excellent suggestion - thanks. I was experimenting with that plant to see if it could provide ground cover. I think with a bit more time it will do so I will keep trimming it and replanting the cuttings like you suggest. Everything happens slowly in my tank.

    Ok, quick update.

I didn't do a water change on my tank last week so today it had gone more than two weeks without one. I did 70% this time and spent a bit of time moving a few plants around.

Here's today's full tank shot. I'm hoping the foreground looks a little fuller, even though I've not added any plants. It hasn't grown much but I bunched up the Cryptocoryne parva and the Lobelia on the right. Everything still growing and looking healthy - it just grows painfully slowly so I have to be patient. That's fine. I moved a Hygro stem over to the left to try to get some height there. All this following suggestions on here (thanks).

A slightly different view to show the thin bottom. I'd like to get some more parva as I love this plant, but my LFS never seems to have it.

I pulled up the Amazon sword and put it in my moss tank. I'm sick of it looking pale and transparent. It's such a greedy plant I just can't satisfy it in this tank. I'd like to get rid of the bright green Eheim pipework (suggested on here thanks) - I got used to it, but it's vile. I'm a bit short of cash at the moment so that might have to wait. I do wonder if I could paint it.

Hygro on the left - as soon as I put the filter back on it blew sideways. Oops. That's not going to add any height as I planned so I improvised somewhat by using a sucker clip. It's not very noticeable and holds it upright. You can probably spot it in the full tank shot above.

    That left-hand side again.

    Barbs.

And here's a rare, if blurry, oto appearance.

Any suggestions of working with what I have? Improvements, criticisms (and how to fix it)? Thanks.

No suggestions your tank always looks good. I'm glad you have a "green thumb".
