Mystery Snail & Apple Snail-Making Slow Love, But Often!
My Mystery & Apple Snail seem to be "getting it on" quite often. I had them for about 10 months and last month they seem to decide they were made for each other. Anyway, I have found them many time embracing each other. Of couple of weeks ago I started noticing baby snails in my aquarium. Then I have found little egg patches on the glass. Each day I'm getting more & more baby snails, and my two love snails still go at it about once a week.
My question is are these baby snails really their offspring? I though that these snails laid their egg gel/patches above the water line? I finding the egg patches on the lower part of the glass, about 4" from the bottom. I haven't introduce any new fish in a few months, and my plants came from AquariumPlants.com way back about 6 or 7 months ago. My tank is being over run by these little snails. I did notice that the babies seem to hang up at the water line like their "parents". Something I never seen Pond snails do. Plus I just don't see how I could get Pond snails without putting something new in my tank for so long. Also, unlike Pond snails, where you find only one or two at first, these little snails were many all at once.
Other than getting rid of one of the "parent" snails, is there any thing I can do to "control" their "Slug Love"?
Thanks for any help,

One, very unlikely this is their offspring, if your seeing egg clutches near the bottom. More likely these are just Pond Snails.
Second, if their getting it on, and you want them to produce, your going to have to lower the water line, so the snails can lay their pinkish egg clutch sack from the top of the aquarium. If you've not seen one of these yet, then it's a sure bet the other snails are not offspring. Applesnail.net can help you loads on breeding these.
