  1. Default What am I doing wrong???

I am trying to hatch brine shrimp eggs. I made one of those hatcheries out of the soda bottles, added 1 liter of water with 1 teaspoon of eggs and kosher salt and of course the bubbles at a slow interval. I even stuck it in my 2.5 gal. fry tank to keep warm at 82 degrees.
The only thing I can think of is that it's b/c the eggs are over 5 years old. I;m not sure how old is too old...do you?

    Any thoughts on this?

Almost everyone has trouble getting started with hatching brine shrimp.
After you get the hang of it, you'll wonder (as you forgot) why you ever thought it was a problem.

Yes, your eggs may be too old to hatch, particularly if they have not been stored properly. Very cool, dry place. Or in the freezer in a really well sealed container.

A teaspoon of eggs is way too much for a 1L container, by the way.

Keep at it, and good luck.

You need to have fresh eggs that have never gotten moist or damp. Salinity at .021 is what I use. Kosher salt should be fine, an aggressive rolling bubble just naked of the air stone works well and 82F. I only use the salt once and then dump it. I'm hatching mine in a litre bottle using a teaspoon. I use it all every 24 hours though and dump the salt for fresh each time. I use glass bottles and brush them clean each time to keep the bacteria down. Bigger will work too.

Most likely your eggs are shot. Try it a couple of times and if you see nothing at all after 24 hours that is most likely the case.

They have been kept in the basement with my tank supplies in the manufactured can with the clear plastic lid. I dont think theyve been exposed to dampness as my basement is dry and lived in. Oh well, we'll see soon enough, thanks guys
