I disagree with that. A territory can be a tiny cave to half the tank.
If you have stacked rocks or anything floating, there's a good chance territories will be made on top of each other. As is my case. I even have a yellow benga that adamantly guards the top of the intake tube, while a swallowtail guards the bottom at the intake head.

    Edit
I feed my guys daily with a mixture of Tetra algae cichlid crisps and spiriluna flake at night.
Morning they get anything from frozen brine shrimp or blood worms, Tetra colour granules, Tetra colour flake, small shrimp pellets, algae tabs to play with (pleco eventually sniffs it out lol)

yeah every few days i throw in a kens meat and spirulina wafer for my mbuna, they love it and it instigates some aggressive feeding. i also feed twice daily with kens premium cichlid pellets. I throw in some plankton every once in a while as well.
Finally reached 6 tanks... oh god, this addiction is getting serious. 75g mbuna tank, 65g gold severum, 55g OB peacock breeding colony, 30g(36x18) growout, 20 long Dwarf Alto's, 10g fry tank.
If I die young bury me in... An 8x2x2 with versa tops and a large sump for adequate filtration;)

I've tried kens premium before, but it made my water cloudy. Same with Nutrafin basix. Do you have that problem or do you just feed minimal amounts

Yeah i typically feed minimal amounts. My mbuna are ravenous even when they're well fed though so it all gets cleaned up.

Too ravenous is what I mean.. They would just shred the pellets like there's no tomorrow making it very cloudy, especially with the Nutrafin.
I now have a question mark key, a slash, and a left arrow. I still don't have patience.

Id put 41-42 cause it'll be less crowded but if I were you I'd put some bigger cichlids in that tank. Maybe a couple red zebras and tiger oscars. Hope this info helps!! Good luck!!

um no. DO NOT mix african cichlids with any other cichlids besides african cichlids, dont even mix lake malawi with lake victoria or any of the lakes. Mbuna stay with mbuna or other malawi, Tangs stay with tangs, and vics stay with vics. If you were to put even a single tiger oscar in this tank it would be EXTREMELY detrimental to the health of not only the oscar but the tank as a whole. This tank, if you were to make it on oscar tank, is big enough for about 3 oscars. Not 2-3 oscars and 30+ (expensive) peacocks who dont go with SA cichlids to begin with. sorry but that above info is 100% false and i cant believe it wasnt caught sooner.

Hey Northerly! I think we understood Jab differently. I understood him to mean put oscars in the tank instead of the africans. If that is the case, there was nothing wrong with what he said. If he did mean together, then yes, that is definitely incorrect.
Been keeping fish for around ten years, off and on again.

    Currently have 3 oscars!

yeah good point. He did say red zebras AND oscars, but perhaps i just misunderstood.

U can mix all 3 lakes n any tank, all my tanks have vics, tang, and malawi. N my experience peacocks r very aggressive and i have a hard time with 4 or 5 different ones n a 220 gal. I do find that the more fish the better. If u do a 220 gal and u have lots, and i mean lots of filtration, and u do atleast 50 percent wc a week,i have 50 or 60 fish n my 220 and that includes a 14 inch frontosa and 3,10 inch frontosa. Just remember u can do more fish n a big tank u just have to do ur waterchanges.
