Thread: Mts

I'm thinking about using my 20 gallon QT tank for tropicals, I want to put 20+ neon tetras and 1/2 bristle nosed plecos in it. Will a 10 gallon tank be big enough for a QT tank as I have been given one and it looks a bit small.
    1) 140 gallon with 70 gallon sump. 30 neons , 8 white cloud mountain minnows,, 10 Schwarzi cory, 10 julii cory 12 harlequin rasbora, 10 Hengals Rasbora,2 Bulldog Plecs, 2 Bristle nosed plec's and loads of assasin snails. internal 1000 filter + external Fluval 406, fluval U2 to transfer to my QT when needed
    2) 70gallon, and 15 penguin and 12 red eye tetra with an Enheim pro filter.
    3) 20 gallon QT
    4) algae rock tank, with about 10 bulldog fry

    A bit small for what?

If you intend to put all 20 tetras in all at once... Yes, too small. If you intend to purchase and QT your new fish in more appropriate sized batches it will be fine.

My BIGGEST QT tank is 10g. I have used 2.5g, and 5g to QT fish before with no problems. Like 850R said, just do not over load it and it will be fine.
Lots of tanks. Some tanks are planted. Fish include community and bettas.
2 Dachshunds. Angel (Red) and Cookie (Chocolate Dapple).

Thanks for the help, I'm going to hopefully add the tetra's 5 at a time and then wait a month before adding the pleco's. Gotta cycle the tank first

Just put the filter you are going to use in the QT tank in your main tank for a few weeks, or rub the media from the filter in your main tank all over the new media in the new filter to help the bacteria mutiply in it, then use it in your QT tank. Or if you can take a little bit of the media from the main tank and put it in the new filter. It'll be an instant cycle, or very close to it. But you will need to put a couple of fishes in the QT tank to keep it cycled, or feed it with some kind of ammonia source, until you add your new fishes.

Yeah, too small...for your filter seed, squeeze some grunge, brown and all to your new media, and you are set
