Hi welcome to the site. With the algae it's most likely a sign of too much light. Cut back on lighting hours on the tank and that should help cut back on the algae. If the tank is near direct sunlight, may have to look at moving the tank or closing the curtains a bit to limit the exposure. Another problem you might see in 'new' tank setups is brown diatoms, basically brown fuzzy blobs all over the place, you can just siphon those out, after the first few weeks they will disappear.

If tank is infront of a window:
And you want to physically fight the stuff, than to limit the light, add a piece of cardboard to the back to limit direct sun exposure. And buy a small pack of algae scrapper blade refills. Don't really need the handle, holding the rounded plastic blade in your hand directly is effective enough. And scrape the stuff off.
Also on the starvation front, you can help limit the growth by reducing the time your aquarium lights are on. A time of 8 hours is beneficial enough for plants if you have them, while minimizing the time algae can use it.Forum Rules_Pest Snail Eradication_The Fishless Cycle, By Lady Hobbs_Cycling With Fish, By Lady Hobbs_Homemade Hospital Tank_Fish 911

Hi, and welcome to AC! I agree with the above!
Three-fourths of the Earth's surface is water, and one-fourth is land. It is quite clear that the good Lord intended us to spend triple the amount of time fishing as taking care of the lawn. ~Chuck Clark

Knowledge is fun(damental)
A 75 gal with eight Discus, fake plants, and a lot of wood also with sand substrate. Clean up crew is fifteen Sterba's Corys. Filters: canister w/UV, in-tank algae scrubber that removes phosphates and nitrates! Also, a highly dangerous commercial nitrate removal unit from hell
