question about adding canister filter

just a thought.....

carbon will only last a few weeks and sure it might get rid of the meds, but so would a few big water changes. I would use the extra space for biomedia. canisters don't need frequent cleaning, so the carbon would just be making more work and more expense for yourself.

Thank for the advice. I have read a little on the different kind of media...will the biomass help keep my water clear with just running the 4 foam pieces in the side of my filter? It seems a lot of people don't like using the polishing pads. Just curious...and i am sorry if I'm being a pain.

I had used a 405 on a moderate to heavy stocked 55 gallon tank for about one year. I only used the sponges and biomax in the filter. I had crystal clear water and excellent water parameters.

I tried using polishing pads for a while, but like Crispy said, it just adds extra maintenance that you don't need. I had to change those polishing pads every week and I did not notice any difference in the water after I stopped using them
