You know, I hadn't thought to use a toothbrush, and I have plenty of unused ones lying around. Thanks!

I had something like that growing in the corner of one of my tanks during cycling! But I put some snails in and they ate it.120g New World Cichlids ♦ 65g South-East Asian Planted Community ♦ 30g in-the-works ♦ 15g Tanganyikan Shell-Dwellers

Your cycle is right on time and it will most likely finish up for you within a few days. You are looking at a totally perfect cycle going on.
Good advise from Cliff and esamosa to leave it alone. Good idea on the tootbrush too.

So I ever so gently removed the large rock with the gunk on it, and blech! it smelled like a tideflat. So I decided to repurpose the rock as a decoration for my herb garden. The thyme will love it, I'm sure.
Anyways, thank you all for your advice. I'm sure I'll have more questions soon. On with the cycle!
