    I actually have gravel substrate and I do not really like loaches. I'm not sure what it is but I have never really liked them. Any other suggestions?

    Loaches an cories don't 'need' a sand substrate, they do like it though. As long as your gravel is smaller and rounded they will thrive.
    My therapist says I need a bigger tank . . . . .

    If you can find them, how about a Pit bull Pleco? Grows to 2 1/2" Might be right up your ally.

    I would skip on the cory IMO. But if you did get cory anyway, 3 would be good. No read need for 6. I have 3 sterbai in my 50 atm, and they are fine. I've been looking to bump that up, but no one around me seems to carry anymore. But from the behavior I've witnessed, they're fine in smaller groupings.
