    Smile

Looks great and with plants, would be smashing!

I, of course, vote for discus and that would be perfect for ten (young ones are not very expensive and if well feed, will get very large!) With a lot of plants and extra filtering, water changes would not be all that bad; once a week should be fine (amount depends on nitrates levels you measure.)

A very large school of cardinals would work great with discus. Ditto with Sterba's Corys - both these fish will thieve with the 84 - 88 F that is required for discus. Remember, soft water is only required for breeding; discus adjust to hard and basic water.

That said, can't argue with angels - just don't mix angels and discus.
    Knowledge is fun(damental)

A 75 gal with eight Discus, fake plants, and a lot of wood also with sand substrate. Clean up crew is fifteen Sterba's Corys. Filters: canister w/UV, in-tank algae scrubber that removes phosphates and nitrates! Also, a highly dangerous commercial nitrate removal unit from hell

  2. Default First Planting

Thanks for all the ideas! I was wary to add discus at first because of my water hardness but as long as I'm not breeding I should be ok it seems.

I added all of my seed tank and harvested the lighting and rock material. I planted the Java fern, the banana plant and some micro swords. There are 6 neons in there right now but depending on the species I pick for the final I may have to find them a new home.

Still need the other LED to cover the left corner.

Micro Swords on the right side along the border of sand.

I want this thing to become covered on top by the Java

    My centerpiece.

  3. Default Update!

So new wood, rocks and plants.

I decided to take in some dwarf gouramis from a bad home. So for now this will be a little sanctuary. I've also got 5 snails keeping the algae under control.

Just waiting for the plants to grow in.

WOW. i love it:) honestly, one of my favorite tanks ive seen in a long while.
Finally reached 6 tanks... oh god, this addiction is getting serious. 75g mbuna tank, 65g gold severum, 55g OB peacock breeding colony, 30g(36x18) growout, 20 long Dwarf Alto's, 10g fry tank.
If I die young bury me in... An 8x2x2 with versa tops and a large sump for adequate filtration;)

  6. Default Awesome

Thank you for the awesome compliment! Even I am surprised how well everything has come together. I'm really looking forward to the plants growing in and hopefully some centerpiece fish to go along with it. I'll make sure to update when I've got something worth seeing.

  7. Default June is baby making time!

The bulb on my UV went out so the water is a bit tinted but after a week or so I'm starting to like it. Might run without it for a while and see what happens.

So the tank continues to grow and thrive. My crew of trapdoor mystery snails have quadrupled in size and laid two clutches of eggs. This time I supposed I can wait to clean the glass for a while.

Also my ghost shrimp have gone wild. They starting taking on some coloration a week or two ago and I just noticed this pregnant female in the tank. I think there is a second smaller shrimp carrying eggs but it is hard to tell.

The plants are also making more progress. My banana has put off multiple lily pad's and I've successfully planted one. The best part is the algae on the driftwood. It has grown in enough that it ripples under the current.

The only problem is my Java Fern. A few leaves are growing but it is not rooting to the new wood. I know it grows slow so I can wait a bit but I'd really like it to fill in the wood more. I guess time will tell.

    Thanks for looking!

If anyone's got any suggestions or comments, let me know!

    tank is looking great!

Give the java fern some time. I started with one sickly plant that took forever to put out even a single new leaf, but now it's a massive plant with giant footlong leaves.
300 gallon mega tank: build in progress
75 gallon community tank: tetras, danios, corys, platies, otos, pearl gouramis, bristlenose pleco, assassin snails, red cherry shrimp, bamboo shrimp
70 gallon growout tank: clown loaches, sailfin pleco
60 gallon goldfish tank: fancy goldfish
29 gallon frog tank: 1 bullfrog
10 gallon and 5.5 gallon betta tanks: 1 male betta each, sometimes snails

Tank looks Awesome, I vote for Discus allso

  10. Default Update!

So I finally made the plunge and got Discus. Two Red Pidgeons, two Turquoise and one Snake Skin. I also got a smaller guy for free a bit dull but very playful.

This is today after a 30g water change.
