I am an "Aquatic Specialist" for a major pet store.

Would love to hear your thoughts and/or questions regarding this.

    GO!

Not much to say about you personally. There are good and bad "Aquatic Specialist"

Personally I am super nice and wish I knew more than I do about aquatics, lol.

I don't think people who bash the aquatic specialists of the major pets stores say they are mean, just often uninformed. I'm sure you are nice and it's never too late to learn more about your job and this hobby. If you wish to be more informed, have at it, there is plenty here to read.
When I go fishing I just throw sharp rocks in the water and wait for the dead fish to float to the top... Kingfisher
Everything happens for a reason. Sometimes that reason is you are stupid and make bad decisions.

I think my fish is adjusting well to the four gallon, He's laying on his side attempting to go to sleep on the bottom of the gravel.
Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.
Dear naps, sorry I hated you so much when I was a child... Love me

I've found a great love for aquatics, and do actually study a bit in my free time. Unfortunately I was promoted months back with no prior experience.

lol, despised? I've been to several large chain pet stores (3 petsmarts in this area and 1 petco - pretty ridiculous how close they are to each other). I've only ever met very nice "aquatic specialists," and they've always tried to be helpful, whether they knew what they were talking about or not. I'm sure you're a good person who loves the hobby, and like me, you're probably learning as you go.

Good luck! You could do something about your "despised" title, though. Learn the facts about this hobby and become knowledgeable within the field. You'd be the go-to guy at your pet store and people will learn to rely on you for information pertaining to their interests. Showing the initiative could get you a kick-start toward another promotion, too. ;]

I work in a Pet Store. I'm not an 'aquatics specialist' but I am a manager. All I can say, is learn learn learn. This may not be allowed where you work, but at my job we are encouraged to find the real answer. So if a customer asks me a question, I tell them "I don't know, but I'd be happy to find out for you!" and then I'm able to go look up their answer, usually online(here frequently). You'll never know everything(which IMO is the best thing about this hobby), so just keep learning and helping people to the best of your ability. :)
