  1. Default Just Picked Up 3 Apistogramma

So, at my local fish store, i was browsing through their stock, i had $67 gift card burning a hole in my pocket lol! So i picked up 5 Red Cherry Shrimp, some Iron supplement, trace element supplements, and 3 apistogramma dward cichlids. They were not labeled on what species in the apistogramma name, but i have high hopes. The lights are off now, but i can tell you a little about them until tomorrow when the lights come back on.

Right now they are under 1" long, they have one main line going down either side of their body, from their mouth to their tail. They are a tan color, with the main line being black, underneath the lateral line, there is 2 smaller thinner lines, also going horizontally across them, one of them has 3 lines, while the other 2 have faint areas that look like they will get them. I can tell on one of the fish that it is showing a reflection of blue on their cheek. Two of the fish also look to have yellow tips on their two pelvic fins. They also have a dark line going from their eye, down their cheek on an angle. Here's some pictures of fish i believe to look similar to them.

You can see on this fish, it does have the 3 smaller thinner lines under the main line, and also has the slight blue on it's cheek, and again it has the same angled line on it's cheek as well.

Here's another picture of the same looking fish.

    And one less colorful

What i'm believing is that the fish are the Apistogramma Cacatuoides.

Could also be Apistogrammoides pucallpaensis (T-bar). They look very similar, but not as brightly coloured as the Apistogramma Cacatuoides. Apistogrammoides actually means Apistogramma-like, because they look very much like an Apistogramma! Little bit of trivia for you!

Apistogramma are totally cool fish and a good way to have cichlids without having a huge tank. I'm actually surprised we have so many Ram lovers here but very few here appear to have the Apisto's.

I would love some, LH, if I could them! This place has gone from being great for getting what you want, to being down right terrible!

Here's a couple pictures of my fish, they distinctly have the 3 stripes under the lateral line of the fish. I'm believing they are the Cacatuoides.

Hehe, I'd love to add a couple of these, but don't wanna take too much territory away from the Rams. These do look awesome and the lfs near me, does have them.

Yep, I would say that you're exactly right, ippielb. I think they're Cacatuoides too.

Sure look like cacatuoides to me, adults will probably look more like erik olsons photo... You should be able to see red in the fins at that size if they were super reds, orange flashes, etc...

That's what i was just about to ask, how long it would take for them to color up. What a shame, i was hoping they would get extremely colorful.
