I.D For Fish???
Just went to PetsMart to see if they had anymore Harlequin's (they did) and the guy said I needed I.D to buy ANY live critters except for crickets.
Now, I've been buying fish for a long time and I've never had anyone ask for my I.D before. The guy said it was a law in Pennsylvania. I'm wondering if it's a true law or if the guy was just trying to flirt with me.

I just bought over 200 dollars worth of corals and inverts for the biggest fish shop on the east coast which is located in Pa. Only thing I had to show was my money! A few months back petsmart made me fill out paperwork to buy redclaw crabs,it made me promise I would give them a proper home and loving attention. I did,I dropped them in the tank which was a proper home to my mantis shrimp and I lovingly payed attention to the mantis having dinner! That petsmart was in Md,far as I know there is no such law for such malarky but it could be the stores policy.

Store may be asking for I.D to make sure you are over 18, or 21? So that they aren't selling fish to minors? Perhaps they think that means you will be more responsible with your fish?
My therapist says I need a bigger tank . . . . .

That's what I think as well. When I got a gargoyle gecko at a local Petsmart, they checked my I.D. Most pet stores do have a policy of not selling to minors. At the store I work for, I'm not allowed to even bring kids to the animal room unless their parent okay's it.

He said I had to be over 18 and I told him I've been buying fish at that store since I was 17 and never had to present I.D before and I've gone to other local stores without being asked. They don't have anything posted anywhere in the store about it which is why I found it very strange. I know for getting a fishing license I need to I.D to buy it, but otherwise I've only ever needed I.D for driving, buying cigarettes, alcohol and getting into adult shops with friends.

That is weird, here in Canada, in my area, I shop for my fish mostly at petsmart and I have never been asked to present my ID, except when I was paying with my credit card. Not to brag about but I do look like I am not even 15.

Maybe it was just his way of taking the first step in asking you out!

I supposedly look very young, yet ive never been I.Ded at Petsmart, Petco, or at That Fish Place. Its wierd he did that. I live in PA and ive never heard of this law. Been buying my own fish since i was 15, and still only look about 17, even though i am turning 20.

IDK - you could always ask to see their written policy or speak with a store mgr to confirm this.
