Talking My Kitty's Gonna Learn About Fish!

My 15 yr old cat Sandy (picture below of him) appears to not understand the fish-to-cat relationship. He is so unmoved by them, that i can just throw my bettas in little lid-less containers when rearranging the tanks, and i know he wont eat them! He sits right next to them and "guards" them for me instead. So, i have decided that next weekend, he is getting a tutorial on what fish are.

Hes coming to That Fish Place That Pet Place with me for their annual anniversary sale. (HUGE sale for HUGE store!!!!) They will have picture booths where i can get his pic taken and i can win giftcards from his pictures! Then i need some plants, which are in fish room. People are always bringing their dogs in there, and their is no sign, so Sandy is coming in too. I will show him around and let him see the all-you-can-eat buffet and maybe he will smell the fishy smell of the room and everything and finally make the connection between canned tuna and an actual fish. Cat cant die thinking tuna is a man-made snack! Must learn! Gonna be a fun day!

Here is the naive little sweety with his pet balloon (he stares at it until u put it on him):
10gal Betta Tank - Skye the crowntail and Squiggles the deformed albino cory
    10gal Tank- Glofish
    75gal- Everything

*chuckle* If Casper were still alive, I'd be putting books on my tank lids to keep her out. Or else she'd be learning another truth... Pestered bettas bite!

I think my kitty Momo is the same way. He isn't the brightest kitty around, but we love him anyways (except when he cries at 3am like he killed something and sprays).

Although I don't think he would like the ballon though. He likes to be tucked into bed with my parents.

When I met my wife.she had two cats. Each one of them would take their time sitting and pawing on the aquariums. That was until i opened one lid,the cat jump onto the tank, and sploosh into the drink. My giant gourami thought it was the dinner bell. One learned the other didn't,so now we only have the single cat. (Inside that is,there is one who lives in the chicken area to control mice)

Now you made me curious as to what happened in that tank between the cat and the gourami XD

lol, yea. I want him to be a normal kitty and stare at the tank hungrily and waste his time trying to get up there (stand is 3 ft and no walking room on it to the tank, so he cant jump up). It entertaining to watch tank versus cat IME. I used to have a tank at my dad's house that is hard to explain so i will draw it. Perfect spot for a 29gal fish tank that we could easily access and view from sitting on the stairs. Also great spot for the cats to simply walk on the tank and go fishing or sleep on it or whatever. Kitten was so skinny she squeezed behind it to bat the glass when they ran to the back to avoid her and she always got stuck back there.

Here's what i mean by hard to explain. I hope my bad drawing is better understandable:

    10gal Tank- Glofish

Our big fat kitty never went after my fish. In fact, he used to drink out of the goldfish bowl! (that was 5 years ago before I learned goldfish need bigger tanks. Don't worry, he got one) Our younger kitty will jump on top of the tank when the little door is open and dab his paw at the fish. He can't catch them because he doesn't want to get his paw wet! He used to drink out of there too, until my 3" female betta bit him on the nose. He didn't like that at all! He doesn't know that particular betta died of old age awhile ago.
I hate hearing people say "it's only a $3/$5/$1 fish/shrimp, so it's ok if it dies, I can just get another." It's still an animal! All animals should be treated like they're worth $10,000.
