Maroon Clowns

good morning AC,

i have a goldt stripe maroon clown about 2.5 inches, he has been in my tank from the start, i want to add another maroon however would the one in there now kill the new maroon? is it to late to add one?

Good question. I had the same issue but in the end, they got used to each other. I have allard clowns and at 1st one would chase the other away, after a couple of weeks, the were shareing a Nem. If they are the same size, shoulden't be a problem. But, I will defer to more knowledgable folks, this is just my experience...

Yes. If you'd got two first, and one was larger than the other, you'd ended up with a mated pair (the larger one would be the female, smaller the male) If you remember, clownfish are of the damselfish family, thus when established in a tank, tend to attack a new addition.

Some time ago we lost one of our clown fish. We left the remaining clown in the tank until she grew must larger than the typical size of the clown fish our SW LFS gets them in. Once we left the tie was right, we bought a new clown fish that was a lot smaller than our current one and added him to the tank (after a stay in QT).

The new little one submitted to the big one right away and they have not been apart since

I have never kept maroons clowns tho. I would think there would be aggression in the beginning, but as long as the new clown fish is smaller, it should work out over time. Something to look into for sure.
