fish in cycle and plant fertilizer

Hello All,

Wasn't sure if I should put this in the cycling forum or plant forum so I split the difference and put it in beginner freshwater. I am about 4 weeks in on a fish in cycle, last weekend I added some live plants. I am also using Nutrafin Plant Gro liquid fertilizer. My dumb question is, would I have to dose the plants with the Plant Gro again after every water change? I am doing pretty much daily 50% changes while working through the nitrate spike.

You add that fertilizer as needed, based on how the plants are doing. I'd do half-doses though, since ferts can be hard on fishes.

50% waterchange daily (depending on the tank size) is a little much. What size tank do you have? What are your levels at daily? how many fish do you have in the tank and what kind?


On to answering your question. Plants will start asorbing liquid fertlizers as soon as the nutrients become avalible and may very well asorb it all within the same day.There are a lot of things that can effect this though. Co2 injectors, light, ect. What I would do and do now is break up my dosage all throughout the week so they always have nutrients avalible instead of one meal a week then starve the rest so to speak. So if your product advises 2 capfulls weekly you would do a half cap every other day.
