  1. Thumbs up Admiration from ignorance.

Wow what a journey so far. I am 31 (bit of an old dude to have never kept fish before) and I am flabberghasted with the depth of knowledge and level of passion and care that most people have for keeping fish.

I have to admit that until I decided I wanted to join the multitudes of fish keepers (is there a correct term??) I was one of the very ignorant. Buy a tank for 12 plop some water add a goldfish and feed it..... 200.00 later that will NOT be the case.

Since researching and begining my hobby. (1st cold water aquarium has just begun cycling) I have come to appreciate just how awful and wrong most peoples approach to owning fish is. But had I not bothered talking to friends and reading up on the super library that is the net I too would have probably stuffed one or two goldfish into a glass shoebox.

It amazes me that some folk think that a fish is a fish (yes I know technically it is a fish ;p ) And that people couldn't be that fond of fish or care that much.

Thanks to friends in the know and (this site that I read on a regular basis now) I understand that the level of attention and care is equal (and often more tricky) than for any other pet.

Fish lovers I salute you!! and in my opinion anyone that joins a community to share stories and to offer help and advice to the ignorant/unknowing is worthy of admiration and respect! <Rant over>
Never argue with an idiot, they'll only drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

when diving in head first into aquariums and doing the proper research, it might seem a bit overwhelming at first. but once you get the nitrogen cycle down pat, the rest is pretty easy. kudos for you for doing the right thing and learning the right way. you will appreciate the hobby so much more in the long run.
