Yeah he will, he will slowly stop eating and generaly become slow (whats slower than a tortoise :P) and then i need to pack him up nicely in a box with some newspaper. Will hibernate till spring time, got a lot of reading up to do before the winter comes around.

Yeah, I guess you won't have to think about that for a while.
Does Wizzle have any favorite foods so far. Spinach, lettuce? Is that what he mainly eats or does he have pellets?American League Champions!

Hmmm...I was unaware that Hermann's hibernated. All of my Torts are desert and tropical, so no hibernation here.

He eats red cabbage, spinach, beansprouts (having them tonite) rocket, lambs lettuce. He isn't a fussy eater thankfully.
I was told in the store that you can choose whether or not to hibernate but it is better for them to do so. Hermanns are a mediteranean species, what do you thenk then demjor? My therapist says I need a bigger tank . . . . .

Hm. That would be a problem for me...I'd need one I didn' t have to hibernate. I'd be too stressed if I had to (that something would go wrong).
Edit*** Hmmm...I just read they can be hibernated in the fridge...as long as you open it enough for airflow.
I suppose you could get a bar-sized fridge...if they have to hibernate 4-5 months at a time...Last edited by Rue; 03-16-2012 at 06:58 PM.

Aw no rue!! No fridge! I've been told by many people that's the new 'craze' so to speak. They hibernate between 5-8c, your fridge is 0-2c. Lots of people are killing their tortoises this way :(

I know nothing about tortoises but refrigerating them just seems intuitively wrong...
Any expert info?
