    What the heck are these things? I know they turn into frogs, but are there fish that look like tadpoles?

    You mean the larval stage of frogs? they are just young frogs.

    most young fish look like tadpoles in some way - a big round head and a long flat tail, but by the time they are the size of tadpoles they already will have assumed
    their adult(or juvenile) form.
