  1. Default Can anyone ID this fish?

I bought this fish from a LFS that was going out of business. I would feel bad for them if they didnt also sell puppy mill dogs as well. Anyway, the guy sold me this fish and called it a Red Tailed Chalceus. I now do not think this is correct. From what I have read, the RTC is very aggressive and has very visible teeth. This guy is overly friendly and I can see no visible teeth. He does have whiskers which only become visible from time to time. He does have an enormous mouth and appetite and will eat till he explodes. He is my largest, and easily friendliest fish in the tank. Skunk Loach on the otherhand.......

Im sure IDing this fish will be no problem. Thanks!

  2. Default

Im pretty sure that is just a scale injury and nothing severe.. He can be easily startled sometimes.

Also, tank isnt at its best visually cause I am transferring everything to a 75g at the end of the week. Its in transition.

    Bueller? Bueller?? hehe

  4. #4

    Default

looks like some kind of cyprinid

  5. Default

That is a leporinus, I think a "leporinus nigrotaeniatus" to be more specific.

  6. Default Golden Shark

I believe the fish has a common name of golden shark. Its a type of barb as indicated by its barbs. It is not an espescialy agressive barb but it may be hard for your tetras to compete with because of its size and speed.A Leporinus has a smaller more pointed mouth and is more agressive.
