Mystery Mollusk

So, I was looking at the back of my tank recently and noticed a small hole that hadn't been there before, looking in the hole with a light revealed something was in it. Closer look, I didn't know what it was, so I took a pic:

It looks like a mollusk to me. It has a kind of mottled red and white coloration and definite eyes....gotta say first thought was "Oh my god, is that an Octopus?" But it can't be, can it?

It can be an octopus. It is not that uncommon that you get them with live rock. Atleast not in Sweden. Judging from the pictures it does look a lot like an octopus. If it is you will have to consider if you want to keep it since octopodai really are not suitable for reef aquariums or any aquarium with invertebrates and fish in them since they are fiercy predators.

Octopi can squeeze through impossibly tiny spaces and climb out of the water. They're very difficult to contain. A public aquarium would be best for him. BE CAREFUL! That looks like a blue ring octopus. Their venom can kill you very quickly! You should probably do some research and attempt to find someone who can take it if it does turn out to be a blue ring. Again, BE CAREFUL! Don't put your hands in that tank. Also, see if you can get it to come out for a piece of frozen seafood on tongs. That way you'll be able to keep it well fed, as well as get a good look at it.

I'm relatively sure it's not a blue ring. I could see it more clearly than the picture showed.

Probably isn't your choice whether you keep it or not. People spend months trying to get mantis from there tanks,it would be near impossible to catch a octopus. Be careful he doesn't get out of your tank and eat your cat!
