I agree with SF. I thought my Harlequin Rasboras were just fine in a school of five, but when I slowly upped it to nine, I've noticed quite a difference in behaviour. I wish I could have even more.

Possibly, but they surely seem thriving to me! I did a lot of research and not all tetras are the same..some require more or less than others as far as schooling goes. Diamond tetras are an exception to what seems to be the "norm" here.

When I had diamond tetras, I noticed a big difference in their activity levels once I increased the school size from 6 to 9. They even started breeding once I increased the school size to 9
If you increase your school size to about 9 you will see what everyone has been talkign about. If you take your time to do the research FIRST, you can successfully set-up and keep ANY type of aquarium with ease.

I see what you're saying but I only have a 16 gallon tank so upping my tetras to 9 seems to be irrational. I also have 6 glofish and I think the combo is working nicely..so I don't agree that it's necessary to have atleast 9 tetras.

I had 25 in my old tank and they looked incredible. Once they got comfortable, they gained purple-ish hue. Probably the most impressive schooler I've ever kept.

So we are all talking from experience, having kept the small number of 6 then increasing it to 9-13-20-whatever. You have only kept them in a 'school' of 3, I use that word very loosley when talking about 3 fish. So don't you think that we may all actually be giving you good advice here? But hey, your fish, your tank your decision
My therapist says I need a bigger tank . . . . .

Indeed and after thoughtful consideration.. I have increased my diamonds to 7..ridding my tank of other species..and I have to say..it's working greatly!
