Scouting a couple of Silver Aro's at my LFS
My LFS has two great looking Aro's for sale that are both roughly around 8". Last week they were in the same tank together and this week they were seperated. The one that was moved to another tank has a very bloated stomach and seems to be swimming mid level in a tank with schooling fish.
My question is: What would cause a Aro's stomach to bloat like that and why would he be swimming mid level and not at the top like the other one?
Secondly, what should I be looking for health wise before I purchase one?
I know to make sure they eat before buying them, but what else tell tale signs should I look for?
Just asking these questions before I drop a ton of my hard earned money.
Any and all advice is appreciated.
Thanks,
Coach

Check the colour and if there's anything that looks suspicious about his health. (ex. maybe he has a cut on his side or a funny looking spot). Make sure he's an active swimmer too. I have no experience with aros so I can't help you with the bloating problem. How big is the tank you want this fish in?
26 gallon planted- 1 Black Angelfish, 1 Clown Pleco, Community of Ghost Shrimp
3 gallon- Male orange VT betta "Mojave"
Read about my fish in my blog:http://www.aquaticcommunity.com/aqua...wjournal&j=467

Thank you for the response, Im looking to home the Aro in my 150 gallon tank at the moment. My wife gave me the go ahead to purchase a bigger tank and I know a 280 gallon tank is minimum for a Aro. I will have a bigger home for him in a couple of weeks, as I know their growth rate is out of this world. But Im just cautious about purchasing one from my LFS if the other one is not doing so good.

Swimming mid-level isn't all that odd. The bloating could be a disease, or maybe it just ate a large meal? Keep an eye on them. maybe buy the healthier looking one?

They are going for 60.00, Ive priced the same size Aro's at other stores and between the six stores they range from 50.00 to 110.00 so the prices are all over the place.
