Thread: Found snail

  1. Default Found snail

Hi, found a snail today (must have come off of a plant I purchased awhile back). I have mystery snails but they have not laid eggs yet so I know it's not one of them. This is brown and tiny- the size of a pea or smaller. I think I should just do away with it, but not sure if its a good snail or not and how I should do so humanely

I'd say its probably a ramshorn snail, to kill it, you could freeze it, that would probably be most humane.

It's shell is a bit more pointed like the mystery snail. doesn't look like a pond snail or a ramshorn.

Is it a nerite snail , or a trumpet snail

Ok, it has the pattern like the nerite the black stripes and spots over brown. Comes out of shell sideways and has black body. He has a pointed shell at the side, but not as pointed as the trumpets. I can't get a decent pic of him because he is too small.

An assassin snail? (I sort of doubt that it is)

I am thinking it may be a young trumpet just not that long yet. No trapdoor btw. Maybe I should let it be till I know or see more.

How about this? This is a tiger nerite snail, they are great snails. They dont show their trapdoor very good, usually mine seem to hide it so well i forget its even there. They need to get poked and prodded alot to reveal and shut the door. Otherwise they just curl up their bodies a little instead.

possibly.... he is so dark in color you can barely see the stripes. I guess I'll leave it and see what happens. It is so tiny.

If it has the general shape of a tiger nerite but is more or less brown, I would get rid of the thing. There are two types of pond snails the rams horns which are nothing great, and the other kind which are a curse. If you aspire to plants they will much them down.

Most likely he is not the only one, also.
