I've been thinking of getting some Otos someday, as my tank is always over run with algae. But I'm afraid to get them no matter where I get them from they are going die in a week. I just cleaned off mine algae, and it's too cold here to grow stuff. Is it possible to grow algae on rocks in a window seal if it's only 32 degrees in that room? I have a porch that gets good sun but is cold. Can I grow algae out there? Of course I don't have money to get them right now anyway and I can't find a good place. The ones at (dare I say it .. walmart) seem to be eating some sort of stuff on bottom of tank so I guess they are used to wafers.
Where is a good place to get them? They are $3 a piece over here and I don't think petco/petsmart have them and that's my only choice other then *bleh* walmart.

I got three at Petsmart yesterday! They are very teenie, tiny yet ( so small I am worried they are going to get eaten!) and three was all they had left, but it would be worth checking at your local Petsmart. And make sure to ask if you don't see them. I couldn't find any in the tank but decided to ask anyway. Sure enough they had these 3 little juvies but they were so small I didn't see them in the tank!

Edit: and by the way, these little guys have been BUSY BUSY BUSY cleaning up my diatoms!

I always heard they die very easily too so I got a dozen of them to go with the one I had. None of them died and I still have them a year + later.
