baby goldfish hatched! weird tiny white worms on my tank. help please!
Well my baby goldfish have finally hatched! I have one small issue due to the dead eggs in my tank though. I was unable to remove them because the babies were stuck all over the plants and stuff and I didn't want to disrupt anything. Now I have little white worms all over my tank and I think they came from the dead eggs. I was afraid to put any medications in the tank for it may kill the baby fish. Is it normal to get these white worms. What should I do about it?

It almost sounds like planaria. They are little worms that look like white hairs. You usally get them when you get excess food in your tank, which in your case could be the un-hatched eggs.
I don't think these would harm the newly hatched fish, but I'm not 100% sure of that.If you take your time to do the research FIRST, you can successfully set-up and keep ANY type of aquarium with ease.

Sounds like it to me, too. But with babies, you have to do regular daily water changes. Are those babies in a tank without substrate? That would make keeping the tank clean for them much easier. If not, you'll still have to vac up the bottom daily.

I have a power filter going at all times. I haven't done the 1st water change yet do to the babies still being attached to the rocks on the bottom. I figured that as soon as the babies develop their swim bladders & start swimming around, I'd do the water change which should be within the next day. Is that a good idea? Also, have you ever heard of a product called prazi pro? Its an all natural remedy to get rid of fungus, worms, etc. without hurting the fish. I wasn't sure if I should put any in the tank with the babies so early in their development stage so I have not put anything chemical wise in the tank. There is good bacteria in the tank and everything else is fine. The worms dont seem to be harming the babies but I don't want them to become a nusance later on and effect the babies if I can do something early enough to prevent anything from happening. Thank you so much for your help and replies. :) I'll be posting updates on their development as well. This is my 1st bundle of baby fishies so its totally new to me and I want to try and get it right. :) When should I start their 1st water change?

I would not add medications of any kind to the tank.
You should really have a sponge filter to prevent babies from getting sucked up into the filter but a nylon stocking or some type of net put over the strainer will help with that for now.
Are these babies in a breeding tank by themselves or with the parents? If they are with the adults, they may get eaten. If they are in a tank alone, then something like in my attached pic may help in water changes.
My guess is they must be in the tank with the parents. Overfeeding causes planaria and since these babies are not eating yet, that tells me they are in the main tank? You should still be able to do water changes taking the water from the end of the tank where no babies are hiding.Last edited by Lady Hobbs; 04-08-2012 at 02:50 AM.

I hav a thin shirt sleeve on the filter for now to block babies from getting sucked up inside of it but its not to thick for the filteration to flow and work well. The babies are in their own breeding tank, 25 gal. Parents have been removed. I would have used a sponge filter but it was misplaced at the time of deciding to breed the parent fish but the shirt is working fine for now. The breeding tank is at my friends house where we are both monitering it with around the clock attention. I will get pics posted on here as soon as I can. I'll be returning to check on the frys 2morrow morning after church. :) I'll have to figure out how to post pics correctly because I'm still totally new to this fish forum. Thanks so much for your help. I'm so glad I'm a part of this fish forum to get wonderful advice from wonderful people such as yourself who care for the health and happiness of fish. :)

Sounds like you have it under control without our help. LOL Just do those water changes and all should be fine.
