Congrats on the nice new tank - Lady Hobbs   Welcome to AC - Lady Hobbs

    Default Sick Oranda - ideas??

I have a 75g with 6 fancy goldfish, one of which has suddenly gone belly up - literally.

A couple of days ago my oranda became very lethargic and started floating upside down, sometimes at the top of the tank, sometimes at the bottom. It responded to attention and came around for feeding so I decided to give it a few days to see how it gets on.

Next day much more lethargic, and I noticed the other fish starting to nip it's fins, so moved him off to a quarantine tank for now (which is not cycled so I am paying very close attention to the water parms).

There are no obvious external signs of injury, so I'm suspecting an internal problem. Have started treating for worms (PraziPro), but now he is just floating upside down at the bottom of the quarantine tank He does respond a (very) little if I approach and will eat if a pellet lands nearby, but I've cut back the food at the moment.

Any suggestions for other courses of action? Open to anything! I notice the PraziPro lasts for 7 days and says not to mix with any other medication.

    Thanks,
    John

could be a swim bladder problem. I'd feed some peas and then stop feeding entirely for a few days. Is it pooping?

He is pooping, which I'm taking as a good sign. And this morning he is at least floating the fight way up again. Still not doing much, but moving in the right direction.

    Thanks for the input

Keep up with the peas. Took one of my goldfish about a month to get back to normal.

    Then a raccoon ate her.

Bit of a development. Still floating right way up, but now looks suspiciously like there may be anchor worms on the little guy. I've attached a couple of pics - anyone confirm the diagnosis?

If this is right should I stick with the PraziPro or move onto anti-fluke medication (the prazipro doesn't mention anchor worms specifically)

Just a quick update. The PraziPro seems to be doing the trick. He's now responding well and eating again - certainly looks to be on the mend

Any suggestions on how long to leave him quarantined. My quarantine tank is much to small for him to be comfortable long term so the sooner I can safely get him out the better.

Also - any issue with treating the main tank with PraziPro as a preventative measure? Better safe than sorry I'd think, but doubtless others here know better :)

    Thanks,
    John
