Smile Kurly's 30 Gallon Bolivian Ram Tank

    0 Not allowed!
Okay, I'm taking the plunge and going to Journal for the first time! Let me warn everyone, I have no idea what to expect or how this journal will turn out but I'm very excited about setting up a new tank for my Bolivian Rams and am willing to give it a try. I'm not a great photographer, nor aquascaper but will do my best.

The reason for this new tank is because I have a total of five Bolivian Rams in my 65 Gallon Main Tank and two of them have paired up.
They have spawned around 7 times and every single time the eggs were eaten by a greedy fellow tankmate (which one or ones I do not know)

So... I got to thinking, if I want to see if I can successfully breed these two love birds then I better get them out of that tank so they can produce me some Bolivian babies!!!! Which means that I'm going to get another tank just for them. How sweet and romantic huh?
I'll more than likey move all five Bolivians over after new tank is set up and see how it goes knowing that I can always move the three stragglers back over to the main tank.

It's also a great excuse to tell hubby my reason for adding yet ANOTHER tank in the house. After explaining to him that we could move the little 10 gallon Shrimp Tank and smaller 5 Gallon QT sitting on the double stand in the Living Room to the other side of the Piano, we would then have a wall to put my NEW BOLIVIAN RAM TANK, he somewhat reluctantly agreed with that "uh-oh" look in his eyes but a YES is a YES and that's all I needed to hear... woooohoooo!!!!!

So far I already have a few items on hand for this new tank :

    1. Cycled Media from Main tank
    2. 150 Watt Eheim Jager Heater
    3. 36" Coralife Freshwater Double Aqua T5 Strip
    4. 6700k Bulb
    5. Colormax Lamp
    6. Thermometer
    7. Live plants (from my main tank)
    8. Driftwood (Manzanita) that has been laying around (still want more though)
    9. Flat Rocks (to lay eggs on )
10.And last but not least...... My Bolivian Rams

    Items recently purchased:

    1.AquaClear70 Filter
-Placed my order online today at Petsolutions and it should be arriving
early next week (Thank you Lady Hobbs for posting a thread on the AC
    about their Big Sale !)

And wouldn't ya know it... I was able to use the money I received from
selling excess Java Ferns from my overgrown Java Fern Mother Plant to
pay for my AC70 filter! I'm finally catching on how to this hobby works
sometimes. You sell fish stuff to buy more fish stuff to support this
    addiction!

These are the items that I need to get:

    1. 30 Gallon Breeder Tank
-Trying to find one cheap but in good condition off of CL or try to take
advantage of the $1 per Gallon sale if it comes up somewhere again AND
    they have this size tank.

    2. Tank Stand
I'm looking for a Double stand that will hold two tanks so I will have a
place to put the extra tank for some of the Bolivian Ram Babies.

    3. Substrate
Looking at CaribSea Tahitian Moon Sand. I like Black but already have
Black substrate in my Main tank so I'm possibly going to have a mixture of
Black and Sunset Gold...... Suggestions are always welcomed!

    4. Additional small plants

    5. Possibly more driftwood

    6. A cave or two either made by me or purchased.

    7. Am I missing anything????

Guess I'll add some pics of a few things I already have later just to fill this Journal until the REAL pics begin once I get my tank.

    I'm SOOOO Excited!!!

Can not wait for the tank to come together. I have a question. Why dont you go for a 29g? They are on the $1 a gallon sale every time. 30g tanks are NEVER part of the sale. The only tanks that go for that price are as follows... 10g, 20gL, 20gT, 29g, 40g, and 55g. TRUST me those are the only ones that ever go on sale. They have the sale 2x a year and I think that they had the sale in december so they will not have the sale again until the summer. Good luck on it.
Lots of tanks. Some tanks are planted. Fish include community and bettas.
2 Dachshunds. Angel (Red) and Cookie (Chocolate Dapple).
Shiny Things and Beauty the rabbits.
RIP Princess and Max the Dachshunds, Tiger and Ping Pong the rabbits, and all the fishes from when I was a newbie.
    It is Ldoerr NOT Idoerr.

WOOOOOO!!! All i can say is, I'm smiling!
Three-fourths of the Earth's surface is water, and one-fourth is land. It is quite clear that the good Lord intended us to spend triple the amount of time fishing as taking care of the lawn. ~Chuck Clark

I want a 30 Gallon Breeder because Bolivian Rams use the bottom and mid level of the tank. They never use the upper quadrant. A 29 Gallon is 6 inches shorter and 6 inches taller than a 30 Gallon so I would be losing length and wasting the height of a 29 gallon if I were to purchase one.

I'm going to Aquarium Adventure this weekend to pick up a few more cory cats during their sale for members and may pick up a 30 Gallon Breeder there. They usually have odd size aquariums. Also, they're having a $1.50 per gallon sale on tanks up to 55 gallons (why they have to increase it by .50 is beyond me) and that may be one of the few places that carries that size.

    We shall see.

Oh, I posted the need for a 30 Gallon Breeder Aquarium on my local Fish Forum. I want to trade a new, still in the box 48" Aquarium Light for a 30gallon tank. Had a response but the responder lived in a different city. Maybe someone else will come through who lives in the same city as I do.

Say Hi to one of my Bolivians who will be moving into a new home soon

The rock pictured behind it is the place where all the eggs were laid at one point in time. As you can see I forgot to clean it during my last water change..lol

Picture is somewhat "grainy" and doesn't due his coloring any justice but pictures will improve as Journal progresses.. I promise!

I hope you find the tank you need! I have a 29g and I wished I would have read around here sooner and got a 30g instead!
I love the way rams look, I wished I could have some of my own. I'll be looking forward to seeing more pictures soon
