Thread: Babies????

  1. Default Babies????

Okay, I don't know if Im losing my mind or what but I was just looking at my tank and in the filter it appears to be BABY fish!??? No bigger than fish poo, but totally swimming around in there. Kind of appear to be translucent, but Im not certain bc they are so tiny! I have a few GloFish, 2 Neon Tetras and 1 GloLight.

Could they be babies in there??? I obviously have had no intentions on breeding fish.

    In the filter??

WOOHOO!! I hope they are babies! :) Certainly sounds like babies anyway! If you can catch them and put them in a fry net it'd be good, then the parents won't eat them and they wont keep getting sucked into your filter. To feed little guys like that, I get flake food, crush it up into a really fine powder, then wet some toothpicks, roll them in the powdered food, let them dry so that the food sticks to the toothpick then float one of them ontop of the water a couple of times a day! :)

Absolutely possible, Lots of fry manage to stay away from the intake. Some also get sucked up and some of those survive.

Many here have tales I am sure of finding fish in their filters, It's not uncommon.

    EDIT: Nice toothpick trick. :-D

Any bright ideas on how to safely remove these little guys??? I have a Biorbe so the filter sits at the bottom and it is inclosed in a plastic container. To get to them I have to take that whole section out of the tank...

The tank is honestly not big enough to raise them! Could they survive in anything outside of the tank?

I am not familiar enough with that tank to offer extraction tips, Sorry.

As to where to put them. Anything non-toxic & suitably sized that holds water that can be heated and filtered would work. Rubbermaid tubs work well.

Or just put them in a plastic bag and take them to your LFS, Call first to make sure they will take them.

These just don't sound like baby fish to me. By the time babies are free swimming, it's pretty obvious they are baby fish altho very tiny. But who knows, huh?

They move around like fish... look like big eyes followed by a tail... but are SO tiny! The fact that they are in the filter makes it difficult to really tell much.

If they weren't babies, what else would they be!!!??

I saw a video of neon tetra fry and thats exactly what this looks like!!! Apparently they are 3 or 4 days old since I can see them swimming.

Big eyes, all tail and swimming. Bingo. You have baby fish! LOL Doubt they are neons tho. They do not produce in aquariums. They aren't even raised in any US fish farms due to how delicate they are. What else ya got in there?
