tank looks good but your little blood parrot needs a couple of buddies or it will most likely continue to hide. BP's do best in a family unit of at least 3 :o)

Thumbs up for mentioning that! We have been looking at some jellybean parrot fish to add to the tank. The blood parrot we have is a beast though. He protects his territory nicely. I just made that cave when cleaning the tank and he took it as his own. Usually though he is out swimming around and enjoying himself.

BP's are entertaining fish and full of personality. My 3 are an inseparable trio and rarely show aggression so I'm thankful for that. They do like their own hidey holes though :o)

They are cute little buggers :)

His aggression is solely for territory. There was a lot of convicts in there and it was difficult to claim any spot without fighting for it. I've reduced the stock dramatically so hopefully it's a lot better for him. As soon as we find some Jellybeans for a good price we are going to pick up 3 or 4.

Just my opinion, but I'd never purchase any jellybeans as they are dyed fish. This means they've been cruelly subjected to injections by needles that are used communally on fish which also makes them more susceptible to disease and in general weakens them. The dye also fades after about 6 months. BP's are already hybrid fish and the dying adds additional stress to their delicate system.
    Sorry.

Really? That is disappointing. I thought they were simply hatched that way, but haven't done ANY research on it. I will do some reading up on them before any purchases are made. Thanks for the heads up.

You're welcome and I'm glad you're going to do some reading.. This dying is ugly business. Too bad. They even tattoo some of them which is even more cruel.

3 or 4 bright orange blood parrots will make quite a statement in your tank :o)

Yea I just read a bit about it. That's sad and I can't believe it's legal to do that in the states. I'll be passing on those jellybeans. Too bad really as they are great looking.
