  1. Default Cols 23g Restart

    0 Not allowed!
    Hi All

Thought I should probably start a journal on this tank. Especially since now I'm having to strip it down and start from scratch.

    Specs are:

    2ft - 23 gal
    Fluval U4
    Heater
    Light

    Current decorations:
Mix of black, brown and clown puke blue gravel
    Fake logs
    Fake plants
Two small pieces of driftwood with Anubias attached
4 small anubias plants in the gravel
    Car wreck (LOL!!)

    Inhabitants:
    2 juvenille angels
    1 neon head Apistogramma
    4 pepper corys
    1 yoyo loach
50,000,000,000 trumpet snails (hence the restart)

    Planned:
Same fish sans the trumpet snails
Gravel: laterite, black carib sea sand with a layer of fine black gravel on top
driftwood and anubias will be going back in

    Purchases:
    The new gravel
Java fern & another plant...can't think of name its fine leafed with purple undercarriage.

    Currently:

The whole tank is PURPLE!!!!!! Condies crystals (Potassium permanganate).

DON'T' PANIC!! My fishies are safe and well in the en suite:

As soon as I finish this post I will be removing the substrate and putting it straight into the bin. No way on this earth would I be able to remove all the snails.

The filter & heater are still in the tank and hopefully all those nasty snails are dying as I type!!

The biggest down side of all (other than the work) is that I'm going to have to recycle with the fish in the tank. I have no where else to put them and because it's a Fluval U4 I can't use media from another tank. :( Actually, I just thought...I might be able to fit some aqua clay from another tank into the ceramic ring section. I'll just have to put it into a stocking or something first.

Okay, I'm off to start digging out gravel.

  2. Default Update

    All empty and clean:

I also moved it. It was on top of a 6 drawer tallboy and it was a nightmare to do water changes. Now it's on top of a smaller set of drawers (very sturdy) and while it's in front of a window, this window gets little to no sun.

So here it is!! Everything is in (except the fish) and the filter and heater are on. Looks like the temp is already up to correct.

I'm about to run out to do school pickup so I'll probably put the fish in when I get home providing there are no problems. :)

    Cheers!!

    Thanks!!

Well I just put the fish back in. I could see they were rather stressed in the tub where they'd been waiting. My poor yoyo had lost all his colour, the peppers were dull and the neon head wasn't neon anymore...

Anyway, as soon as I put them back in the yoyo raced for his beloved car wreck, the peppers started looking for food and are colouring up nicely. The neon head is neon once more and the angels aren't sure what to do.

The water is still a bit cloudy. I'm hoping that it'll settle down quickly.

I removed the ceramic rings in the Fluval U4 and replaced them with aqua clay from my canister on the 4ft tank.

Now comes the watch and wait game to be sure the water parameters stay stable...

  6. Default Day 2 - Update

Day 2 and all the fish are still alive!

The angels aren't eating and are acting a little bit aggressive to each other but I'm hoping they'll settle in a day or two. All the other fish are eating very well.

The water is still cloudy, although it has been slowly improving over the day.

Okay, just did a water parameter test:

    PH: 7.0
    Ammonia: 1.0
    NitrIte: 0
    NitrAte: 5.0

Alright, it's almost 9pm at night here so I'm going to do a quick water change and then head to bed I think.

    Night all!!

    Thanks guys!!

The angels still aren't eating properly. They grab the pellets and then just spit them back out. They've always eaten these before so I'm not sure what's going on. Later on today I'll try them with some frozen blood worm 'cause they LURVE those and attack it immediately.

Haven't tested yet. Will do so when I get back from the school drop off.

    Cheers!
