Fast growing moss?

What would be a good lower light moss?
What is a really fast grow/spreading moss?
Would any moss be a good candidate for the bottom/carpet in an aquarium?

Mosses are not a good choice for a carpet, because they very quickly get dirty and gross.

One of the most common low light mosses is Java moss. Another moss that generally does well under low light conditions is Christmas moss.

You could still add some moss... just attach it to some driftwood rather than trying to make it carpet.

Or, you could make a "moss wall." I have seen two methods: one involves smashing moss in between screen material, attaching it to the back of the tank with suction cups, and waiting for it to grow through the holes. The other method involves using fishing line to stitch the moss onto a tank divider that is then clipped to the back of your tank using the clips that came with the divider.

OH, what if...
What if I used the method mentioned, stitching the moss onto a divider, but then, place it horizontal at the bottom of the tank. Then, bi-weekly or monthly, I could lift it out and rinse it off the clean the dirtiness, mentioned by a previous post...
Would that work?

It usually just comes in a wad. Regular plant businesses sell it by the "square" (2"x2", etc.) but private sellers will usually say something like, "a golfball sized chunk." You can usually get a better deal from a private seller.

You could give it a try... but when you lift the entire thing out of your tank, you're going to disturb any livestock and most of the mulm will probably shake off into your tank, leaving a giant mess.
