    Default New Car Question

Now that the transmission just went in my current car, Im looking to buy a new one

Im thinking about getting a Mazda CX7. I found a great deal on one but I dont know too much about them other than the on-line consumer reports that I have read.

I was wondering if anyone here owns one, or has any opinions on them they would be willing to share.
If you take your time to do the research FIRST, you can successfully set-up and keep ANY type of aquarium with ease.

They are junk. Just had an 07 come into the shop that needed a new turbo because it was leaking oil badly both into the engine and on the ground, new timing chain and guides because they were loose and rattleing and a new variable valve accuator because it was broken and setting a check engine light. $4000 to fix it all so the customer decided to trade it in. It only had 70,000 miles on it too and these are common problems, although usually they dont happen all at once.

    Thanks for the advice

I guess I now know why it was such a good deal

No problem. The shop I work at is part of a few automotive repair forums that we go to to see if certain problems are common and when I was diagnosing that CX7 for its oil leak and rattling there were several dozen of post about bad turbos and timing chain problems

Sorry for this expensive problem, Cliff. If the car is decent at all, perhaps getting the transmission repaired might be better than years of new car payments, tho. But if I did have to buy new, I would make sure it was from someone who keep Canadians and Americans working.

You live in the great snowy north...Id suggest a Jeep myself. I love my Wrangler...and for a 4cyl the SO's Patriot does well. It has good fuel economy, you can get a nice one for around 20K, and it will definitely do some moderate offroading and has no trouble forging snow. Its only downfall is the CVT accelerates slow, but it is an SUV so that is forgivable.

Unfortunately, I cant justify putting a new transmission in a vehicle that is worth less than the transmission its self. It would be best if I just sold it for parts. I typically keep my vehicles until I can't drive them anymore. I was hoping to get a few more years out of my current one, but life goes on. I still got my money's worth out of that vehicle.

I am now looking at a Chev Equinox now. They seem to fit our needs and sound like a quality build vehicle.

Edit, I look into the Jeep as well. Thanks Jenn

Theres lots of great deals out there Cliff, look around, take your time and drive a few. My wife has a new Durango that she Loves, and keeps spotless. I drive a jeep (Sahara) for two reasons, it's a sin to wash a Jeep and it will go anywhere! I don't know how much snow you get in Sask, but if you notice, we both drive 4x4, we are the Great white north after all

After you do all your test driving... go home. Do not let some dealership sell you a car right there in the heat of the moment.

Send your decided on requirements and desires for your new vehicle to several dealerships in your area by email. (Make, Model, color, any special features, etc)

Then enjoy them bidding for your business from the comfort of your home. They will start to narrow themselves down... and even the "no dicker sticker" type places will actually make offers. And finally you will have that one place, where even the other dealership(s) say "I can't match or beat that offer, you should take it."

You will then know you got a great deal.
