Black Ghost Knife Fish suddenly ill
Hi guys, I hope you can help.
I've had my BGK for a little over a year now and for the first time since owning his he's worrying me. One minute he was fine, active, popping out for food at night. Then in a matter of days he went completely off his food and started swimming strangely (even compared to his normal bizarre movements!). He kept floating at the surface like he was gasping for air, had a swollen tummy and completely abandoned his favourite tube. I assumed he'd simply outgrown the tube and the water quality had slipped (plus I'd recently treated for whitespot) so I did a 50% water change and rearranged his tank so there were some larger hiding places and I put his larger hollow log in.
Things have improved, the gasping at the surface has stopped and the swelling's gone down a bit, however he's still out in the open, he's still not eating and is staying in a vertical position with his tail near the bottom of the tank which now looks as though it's been bleeding as his tail's marked and the white patches at the end are a red-pink colour.
If anyone could help me I'd REALLY appreciate it.
Tank size: 4ft x 2ft x 2ft (planted)
2 Kissing gouramis
4 Glass catfish
2 Bosemani rainbowfish
1 Butterfly fish

Maybe stress from tankmate aggression, kissing gourami's "can be a problem. "All it takes is some stress to let disease set in.Quarantine the fish and put some herbal fish remedies in there, ones that promote for ,I don't know....Umm..healing,or something.Come to think of it common pleco's are quite aggressive, especially when competing for hiding spots.

I know they can be aggressive but I've been incredibly lucky with mine and they all get on well because of the amount of bogwood etc to create caves and the like. Plus they've always got on fine for the last year or so. Could anything spark off their aggression? What size tank would you recommend for a quarantine for him? I only have a 2ft spare. Would that be sufficient?
