As you have started two threads to ask the same question, I have merged them into one
If you take your time to do the research FIRST, you can successfully set-up and keep ANY type of aquarium with ease.

it's good to start eels on bloodworms, brineshrimp, or live fry. getting them to eat well and stay in the tank are the hardest parts of owning one. they are great escape artists and will get out of the tank via any tiny spot. sand is not 100% necessary, but if using gravel, keep it small and smooth. they do like to burrow in the sand if adequate shelter is not available. A nice hollow log is usually their fav spot.

okkk thanks to both of you also the site says a 20 gallon as the smallest so a 30 is fine right?
