    Question Glass catfish

My aquarium is pretty full and happy the now but just for future ideas are glass catfish good to keep? I have read that they are very hardy and then in another book it says they are prone to white spot, so does anyone have and experience with them?
    My therapist says I need a bigger tank . . . . .

I just read this article about them:

    http://www.allabout-aquariumfish.com...uirements.html

I don't believe there are any fish that are "prone" to "white spot" which is ick - ick is usually the result of a fish being stressed by living in poor water conditions, not being acclimated well to a tank, etc.

Glass catfish are a hardy fish when kept in good conditions and kept in proper group size. You need 6 or more, but also hide a lot and usually not kept with bigger fish.

I think they would be great to keep, definitely on my list. I'd love to have a 55 gallon with glass cats, a small pleco, neon tetras, and marble hatchets.
    8 tanks running now:
    1x 220 gallon, 2x55 gallon, 1x40 gallon long, 1x29 gallon, 1x20 gallon long, 1x5.5 gallon, 1x2 gallon
Gouramis, barbs, rasboras, plecos, corys, tetras, fancy guppies, swordtails, ottos, rainbow shark, upside-down catfish, snails, and Max and Sparkles the bettas.

I have a tank like that, but it has 1000+ guppy and 2 butterfly fish and 15 glass cats

How big is that tank or are you just joking about the number of guppies?

Its a 55, and yes im kidding about the guppies. I have a lot of guppies in that tank, they have no natural predators that can eat the babies fast enough. I have no clue the amount of guppes in there though.

Glass cats don't generally survive in small groups. If you can't easily have room for six or more, consider passing on them until you can.

The key to keeping glass catfish and its relatives is current. What you do is put two or three low gph power heads on one end of the tank, and start them. When you add the glass catfish, they will naturally swim against the current. They also look beautiful with their bodies rippling in the current. About half way up is the site for the power heads.

I keep 10 three line glass catfish (Pareutropius buffei) precisely that way.

I have 6 and they are fun to watch. Mine never hide and are always hanging pretty much in the center of the tank altogether. I am thinking about getting 3 more this weekend.
