  1. Default iodide importance

I have had a seachem iodide test kit for a few months but just checked it tonigh. I had no detectable iodide even though I do a daily dose of 8 drops a day as suggested. I did double check with the supplied std and it checks out at correct. Is this a param any of you fellow reefers keep an eye on and dose for?

I have a test kit, but never even opened the box, lol. Iodine is most important in heavily populated softie dominated tanks, but most people I know don't bother testing for it or dosing it. It doesn't take much to overdose and an overdose can be deadly.

    I've never dosed it.

I've heard xenia benefits from it and I have xenia is growing at weed-like proportions in my tank. Whatever iodine that's included in my salt mix seems to be more than sufficient.

Something is using it in my tank,I dose daily,do water changes weekly and have no iodide present. I suppose I will dose it till I get the correct amount and do that for awhile. If I see no difference I will cease.

Interesting... I should pick up a test kit to see what I have in my tank. I know I started to lose my mushrooms and could not figure out why until I was talking to my LFS. Suggested I add some iodide to the aquarium and explained the difference between iodine and iodide. Well, I dosed the aquarium and my mushrooms came back and are growing again!

Well,I upped the dose considerably about the time I made this thread. It actually went pretty high for a few days. Some info I saw stated the level I had was toxic others simply said its high but isn't an issue. Whatever the issues it may have caused had it stayed that high I don't know. I did see a big increase in baby zoas and the3 fullness of my shrooms, especially the watermelons. I have since stabilized it around 0.04 and will keep it that way for awhile.
