There's a reason I used the word "Beginner" here. This isn't talking to the newcomer to the site, this is the newcomer to the hobby.
The wording here was chosen so as to point directly towards the target audience. It clearly does not point to the newcomer to the site who has years of experience.Dear Beginner,
Welcome to the wonderful world of AC, and the aquarium hobby.
Beginning hobbyists do come here looking to learn. Yes, 99% of the members do know more than 99% of beginner hobbyists. It is nothing short of arrogant for a beginner in the hobby to act like they know better than someone who has been in it for 20 years.Considering a Marine Aquarium? "You have come here seeking advice on how to best care for your new fish or advice on how to best setup your new tank."
That sentence should have obviously been a clue that this post was not directed to people who have been in the hobby for years. They don't ask how to set up their tank or how to care for their new fish because they already know how to.
We enjoy helping people here or we wouldn't be here. But if 10 people have just spent 3 days giving someone with a 10 gallon tank lots of good advice and here they come to report they just bought a Common Goldfish and 10 Bala Sharks for that 10 gallon, what can you do? Nuttin' Honey.
You learn soon enough that person will listen to no one so there is no more you can do for them so you move on to the next person who wants to learn. You know they will soon hate the hobby because their fishkeeping experience has turned into a nightmare for them and all their fish will die. That part is what causes frustration.
But if this thread causes one new person to pause and consider their choice, then it has served it's purpose. And that was the intention, not give everyone something to nit-pick over.Last edited by Lady Hobbs; 01-01-2012 at 01:22 PM.
