As some of y'all may have seen, my female Angel decided to lay eggs again even though her mate passed on:
My sister sent me these pictures via her iPad so sorry the quality isn't the best.
None of the eggs survived and I'm almost certain the other Angel that I have in there with this female is a female also. The Zebra (Silver, whichever you prefer to call it) that laid the eggs was obviously a female but she allowed the Marbled Angel to protect them even though I'm almost certain she's a female. All the eggs turned white and they were eaten by the other fish.
Update when I go home this Friday for Spring Break!
It's been a while since I got an update but here are 2 pictures I managed to snag tonight. I did a water change and started snapping pictures. I got some really good ones on my dad's camera but when I looked at the button to pop the memory card out... it's stuck in the down position so I have no idea what's going on there Anyways, here are the pictures:
My Marble Angel is a beauty! I'm almost certain now that my Angels are both females:
The stocking list looks like this now:
- 2x Angels
- 2x Guppies (need to rehome)
- 1x Australian Rainbow (need to rehome)
- 3x Oto's (1 died, getting another one ASAP)
- 4x Peppered Corys (2 died, getting 2 more ASAP also)
- 11 Harlequin Rasboras (1 died, replacing ASAP)
The plant stocking looks like this now (as some plants reproduce, I have no idea how many are actually in there):
- Amazon Sword
- Aponogeton Natans
- Cryptocoryne Spiralis
- Cryptocoryne Undulata
- Cryptocoryne Wendtii (red)
- Dwarf Subulata
- Ludwigia Repens
- Java Fern
- Jungle Vallisneria
- Red Flame Sword
- Red Tiger Lotus
I'm not quite sure why I randomly had the newer fish die (Oto and Corys), I did 50% water changes before they went in and I have 4x the filtration on my tank that's been established for a while now. I'm blaming poor stock on that one, I have to settle for Petsmart because the other LFS is 30-45 mins away depending on traffic and it's an easy fix.
Here are my tank specifications in case anyone is wondering:
- Tank dimensions: 48 1/4" x 12 3/4" x 21" (55g)
- Lighting: Single T5HO 6700k bulb
- Substrate: 80 lbs of Floramax (regular color)
- Filtration: Aquatech 30-60, Eheim Classic filter 2213-37, Fluval 404, and Tetra Ex 70
- Dosing: None
- Co2: None
- Weekly Maintenance: 25-30% WC
- Monthly Maintenance: clean out filters (every 2-3 months, every other filter)
Whew, that was a long post
I just thought about something, it's been a while since I touched my Jungle Val. Why is it reproducing instead of growing tall and lush? Can anyone explain why or have any ideas as to why that is maybe?
I dont know, but nice tank!
Thanks man! I'm kind of confused because every time I go home and see the plants, there are more Jungle Vals but they're not that high..
That must suck a bit, because my mental image of vals is a large tall underwater forest of fancy grass xD, not a lawn.
Good luck, and I hope thou find your answer!
When I had 2 of these Vals in my 10g they grew so long they went up from the substrate and across the top to the other side of the tank. Now I'm getting the lawn effect I hope someone can help me out too!
Update!! Since I had to make an emergency trip home (I tore my ACL and medial meniscus this past weekend playing baseball) I figured it would be a good time to update this journal.
