Guppy breeding for oscars

I am planning on getting a 75g tank for an oscar in August. I was wondering if I will need to set up a 10g tank to breed guppies as live food for the oscar.

I don't have an oscar (yet!) but I have seen several posts from our experienced fish keepers saying there is no reason oscars need to be fed feeder fish. They will do just fine (better, even?) on high-quality prepared fish foods.

Providing the live food is not the oscars main diet, then feeding them the odd guppy or two will be no problem and can be enviroment enrichment in that they get to hunt, which they absolutely love to do.

ldoerr as you can see there is an on going debate going on here that has been going on for years.lol
I feel the answer is with the fish keeper and what ever they decide to feed their fish.Pellets with live feeders is a good diet.
Raising your own feeders is a great way to make sure that your fish are getting a healthy (not sick) meal.Its more considered a treat then a daily staple.
A varied diet is best.

I would suggest either getting an additional 20G tank or a bigger tank to grow your feeders out in as a 10g will get overpopulated fairly quickly.

As mentioned they are an addition to their diet & not a staple food source & feeding your feeders [For your Cichlid] high quality food is essential. [Or any fish really.]

Thank you all. I think that what I am going to do is when Petco has the $1 a gallon sale I am going to pick up a couple of 10g tanks. I will use 1 as a QT (deffenitly better than the 2.5g and 5g that I currently use). I will use the other for guppy breeding.

So after I get the 10g tank I will have a 2.5g a 5g ad a 10g to use for the guppies. What tank do you think that I should use for the adult guppies, and what tank do you think I should use to grow out the babies? I would like to have 1 of the tanks as a spare tank.

Again thank you. I am still trying to convince my parents to let me get the tank in August.

Instead of spending $20.00 on two 10g tanks, spend it on a 20L. It won't cost much more to heat and filter than a 10g, certainly less than two 10g tanks.
