    My friends friend is giving away a few plants. I would like to know if I need to do anything special to keep plants?

    I have one 30W T8 Blub.

    I know but she has very bad lights and the plants are doing fine.

    What tank dimensions is the 30W light sitting over?

    What height? If its 18" or under, 30W will do fine for low light plants

    Its 20 inches high.

    I think she has a 30 gallon tank. Dont know what kind of lights she has tho...

    You maybe ok with 20" as you will need at least an inch substrate in the tank.

    It may work, tis really hard for me to know without knowing the actual plants :)

    Java fern, Anubias, Java moss, Val, Crypts will all do great in low light tanks. Some swords too will do ok
