The answers already given were spot on that your tank was not cycled. You wrote on 11/27 that your ammonia level was 0-.50 and nitrites were high and not dropping. Since this post states you stocked a week ago, that can only mean you stocked the tank with high nitrite levels that never converted into nitrates.
That tank had not finished up the cycling process before it was stocked.
You also wrote ammonia was 0-.50. Ammonia levels need to keep kept up to around 3-4 until all nitrites register 0 or you are not growing enough bacteria to support all the fish you added.
Since you now are prematurely stocked, do some large water changes to bring those toxins down to save the rest of your fish and read the cycling threads. Do not add more fish at this time or they will also die. With that many fish in the tank now, I don't understand how everything across the board can be 0, tho. Something is not sounding right there.
Good luck and let us know how it's going.Last edited by Lady Hobbs; 12-13-2011 at 01:40 PM.

I'd agree with the others as far as the status of your cycle, but my other concern would be your stock list. Auratus are some of the meanest mbuna out there and need to be kept as 1m/6-7f. Same with the Maingano IMO, although they are a tick or two lower on the aggression scale. Zebras can also cause havoc as well. In a 55, I'd look to do 3 species, 5-6 of each, lower on the aggression scale too. The yellow labs and socolofi are good ones to start with. If you get through without more losses, I would start over with the labs and socolofi and add 1 more species.
11 tanks, 5.5g up to 125g(2). Mbuna, Haps, Peacocks, Tangs, wild caught to tank raised!
