  1. Default Cold water snails

My 120l tank is currently cycling, but my parameters are looking good. There'll only be one goldfish in there, but I was wondering about putting a snail in there to help with algae control.

Are there any coldwater snails that aren't self fertile? I really don't want to have to deal with a snail infestation. Is it probable that if the snail were self fertile that the goldie would eat the little snails?

Neratine snails will lay eggs in fresh water but they will not hatch, I don't keep GF so I don't know if they will supplement their diet with snails.

Lack of planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part.
Why pretend there are no stupid questions? Actually, There are many stupid questions: "Should I drink this bleach?" Is just one example.
Having said that, Just because it's a stupid question doesn't mean that it shouldn't be asked. It's better to know.

A warm beer is better than a cold beer. Because nothing is better than a cold beer, and a warm beer is better than nothing.

You can get trapdoor snails. They will reproduce, but they are livebearers, so you get like 2 every 6 months to a year, and as babies they are bigger than the pest snails.

They do LOVE cold water though.

Thanks folks. It's good to know that I have a few options. I guess that I'll just have to see what my LFS has in stock.

So what is the full list of other "non-fish" creatures that you can have in a cold water aquarium and what are the best (ie do most good and aren't too troublesome) I like the idea of a snail or too but is there anything else?
Never argue with an idiot, they'll only drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

Well, I had an apple snail in there with no problems. I think there are shrimp that do well in colder water too.

I'd like an apple snail very much, however 50% of folk I have discussed this with say it wouldn't work and 50% have said that it will so I'm really not sure which way to jump on that one.
