  1. Default Where is a good beginner/gallery kind of website?

First off, let me assure you, I have no intention to buy an arowana for several years, if ever. I thought they looked cool, but weren't for me until I saw some in real life at the Denver Aquarium on vacation recently. But from a quick search, I haven't found much good info online. Even tanks sizes seemed varied, I think 150 to 200-something for just the one. I assume the different species are very varied, and I'd probably find better info if I was more specific. So is there any good 'beginner' website to start narrowing my search?

I suppose this is more long-term idea gianing than any actual planning at the moment. Who knows if I instead decide to have several 75's or somethign with communities instead? i just wanted to get some information, thanks for any guidance you can give me!

you're going to need a bare minimum 180g for any type of arowana. there are 4 types; SA aro, Asian aro, Australian aro, and African aro. they need good filtration and a good varied diet. they are excellent jumpers and a heavy lid covering the entire top is necessary. I'll be happy to answer any more arowana questions you may have. they are amazing fish!

Thanks for a starting point on what to google :D Maybe from there I'll be able to pick just which one I'd like to get. Where have you gotten them from? Are there only a few breeders online, or does aquabid have some good ones too? I'm wondering since they are so pricey, heh. Where does one find sch a big tank, are they specially orderable from places like petsmart, or will it have to be shipped from another vendor? I assume equipment too, but I like the idea of 2 heaters/filters than one super powerful one of each anyway, in case of EQ failure :] Any good forums for mainly these kinds of fish? it'll be a long time waiting before I can get my own, but the wait will probably be worth it. Thanks so much!

many lfs' carry arowanas or can order one for you. spring seems to be the time that they are most available. check your local craigslist for a big tank or ask around at your lfs', they can usually order them for you.

while I don't like giving links to other sites, this arowana sticky is the best information and covers everything about them...
